Scooby Doo and the Gang first appeared around 40 years ago. The Scooby Doo format usually involved the team visiting local towns in their mystery machine van investigating suspicious activity and subsequently catching a villain who would be frightening the local residents by appearing in disguise as a monster or ghostly apparition.
The gang would usually find there was treasure, contraband or bad deeds going on which the villain would be trying to mask with his or her scary antics. Scooby Doo and his friends Velma, Fred, Daphne and Shaggy would piece together the plot and reveal the identity of the villain to the local sheriff. Sometimes it was the local sheriff responsible for the mischief!!

Although we all know what is coming next, people still enjoy this predictable tv series, from child through to adult. Most of this enjoyment is due to the endearing characteristics of the clownish duo, Scooby-Doo the Great Dane and his human partner Shaggy.
They are the most bumbling, accident prone scaredycat sleuths that have ever graced our screens and we just love them for it, as they still get the job done... every time! This pair have a constant greed for food and in particular the mysterious scooby snacks, a type of biscuit.
The hapless duo fall into traps, discover hidden passages and hideaways and get caught by the villains quite regularly and it is all done completely by accident. This makes them most appealing and loveable for all their faults, particularly by children but by adults as well.
The fairly recent release of the two Scooby Doo movies - Scooby Doo the Movie and Scooby Doo 2 – Monsters Unleashed - in the past few years has raised the Scooby Doo team profile, modernised their image and given a new dimension to Scoobs himself who now has an even greater persona than ever. It is this more recent promotion that has led to the launch of many new Scooby Doo Toys that are now available. We now see plush toys, dolls, puzzles, board games, art sets, Playstation games and play sets with figures and toy vehicles.

Children recognise Scooby Doo from quite a young age. Many very young children watch TV and this is one show that is reasonably suitable for all. The monsters and ghosts are not really frightening and no one seems to get hurt. It is a fun chase show full of goodies and baddies and the goodies always win!
